I agree, thin border to make the sashing pop and then a scrappy binding!

    This is the pattern http://www.thewhimsicalworkshop.com/...productID=1833
It was in a magazine that my mom had, I'll find the name/volume of the magazine for you as well

As usually I tweaked the pattern to fit my fabrics (used stripes and cut them into triangles so both have the same colors in them just reversed, but they did different colors etc)

Borders, unless pieced to reflect/enhance the top usually look to me like a way to enlarge a quilt.
They often are, because IMO, when a quilt is on the bed, what you see mostly is the middle of the bed. The sides, which hang down, often aren't even noticed. So, when I make a quilt, I usually do focus on the middle--the part that will actually be seen. The borders are often to make it bigger, so that when one sleeps under it, they stay warm all the way out to the edges!

That saying, baby quilts don't really need a border either, because they fit the baby's bed, but don't have any place to hang down.

I like quilts with both borders and some without. I've done both. It seems like it is coming into 'vogue' to go 'borderless'. I've seen them on several blogs by younger quilters who usually quilt non traditional/modern patterns, modern art-y types, etc. They are interesting. I often add borders to make them larger and to frame the middle.
