Street Directory Quilt

Street Directory Quilt
I haven't posted for quite a while as I have been very busy working on this, my local town's, Street Directory Quilt. I wanted a project that would use up lots of my scrap fabrics and so far it has certainly done that. Each of the 'house block' sections are foundation pieced. The streets (grey) are fused down and machine appliqued in place.
3 sides of the quilt are now done and I just have the sandy beaches, ocean and rocky outcrops of the coastline to do. Some parts have been really challenging but it is my interpretation of the street directory quilt and I have taken creative license in some areas.
Street names will be written using a permanent marker pen before I begin quilting this monster quilt. Initially I was going to quilt in sections and then join together but I decided to join it altogether before I started quilting it and I am so glad I did as some parts were a nightmare to join.
This is a long term project that I work on intermittently when I am not quilting other quilts.

Very interesting...I just signed up for a class in November where Timna Tarr is teaching map quilts. I checked out her blog after I learned of the class and it is of a similar creative idea as yours. We’re supposed to bring a map of one of our favorite places to class...
