That's one easy peasy way to find value, for sure! Want to share with us what camera you have? Please? I really need to buy a new one and now I know that I want to have that feature...ooooooh, want it BAD!

Oh my, I have a lot of those fabrics and love them. Your block is a little busy though. Maybe some without so much movement.

I concur with the post that the colors all work but maybe less in each block? a few colors a few blenders? Also if you imagine the block with the dots on the top (triangles?) if those had been a solid or mottled light color in each one it would make the patterns below pop out. I saw it and first thing I thought was darn if those had been one of the light colors in your blocks then the whole thing would have changed up a ton.

After seeing the photo of the complete quilt, I can well understand why you would want to do this one...oooooh, GORGEOUS! I'd probably name it GEORGE! LOL
Okay, take a magic b/w photo of the quilt, compare to the b/w photo of your fabs and just match 'em match up...you might need to audition a few more fabs and cull one or two of the existing cast...but, HEY...this will be worth all the time and effort. Make another trial block after you think you've got it, before you cut a bunch... Ooooooh, I'm anxious...

I love those fabrics, they're stunning! But agree that the block isn't working. I think the black with spots is too close in value to the other fabrics, you need something with more contrast and perhaps even a different colour. It needs to be stronger.

Love the Black and White value photo shot. Too early to give up on the block/pattern just yet. Looking at the B&W pic now assign your fabrics Value names: Dark (I only see one true dark), Medium-Dark, Medium, Light (I see two true lights). Looking at the Friendship Garden picture you attached now place your "Value named" fabrics in similar positions on the block and let's see the new results. It really looks like the ratios of 60% Mediums, 30% Lights, and 10% Darks will work here.

I think the patterns are to busy, bring in one or two solids and perhaps that might help. They don't have to be large pieces, but the pieces now seem to be excuse the expression, but fighting with each other to be seen.

Sometimes making three more and puting them together gives a whole new view and persppective of what initially seems a disaster. I can see possibilities with this, as is.

Each of the fabrics are goregous and each could stand alone as a focus fabric. That and together they all appear to be the same value. The result makes it looks busy and there is no place for the eye to rest.

I would pick my favorite and then go with some tone on tone fabrics to round out the block. Look for something to contrast as well.

(BTW, colors aside it is a fantastic block---don't get discouraged and I do hope you will post again when you find a combination that is pleasing to you. :D )
