Skeat I cant read all of your post for some reason the end of it is cut off.. I think I understand pretty much what you are saying.. would you use black even if the center block is navy blue in all of the squares ?

In that case maybe navy would be better. I like Skeats' idea.

okay...I don't know what happened w/that post..it went all the
way to the right and I had to move my bar at the bottom
to read it myself...so, I will try it again..:)

How cute is this?!! I love it!! Such a fun play on log cabin
type blocks. Here's what I would do if it were me...lay it
out like you have...decide how much space is needed
    between the blocks...guessing 2 1/2" w/the 2" showing.
Then cut ,your length of the fabric by 2 1/2"...sew
between blocks, cut or cut all those boogers by the
length of the block and sew between the blocks.
Then make your long strip all the way across from
left to right w/out any breaks (well, unless you
need to add on to make the strip fit) Once all is
framed in black...you will need to take the black
all the way around to frame it all in(same 2 1/2".
Then at that time decide how much bigger you
want to make this. I'd make a scrappy-whacky
border all the way around...frame again in black.
Black will really make the colors and shapes pop
when doneThen finish in a scrappy binding. Too
cute and anxious to see how this will turn out for
    you! Hope that makes senseIMHO~Skeat

Sorry I didn't get back soon...kid crazy here:)
the picture looks like you have a black center
...is that navy?Or a 'blue-black'. For all blacks
    are a blue-black or a green-black. If it is a
dark navy in the center-that would work
too...espec if it is on the dark side. Or even
black would be fine too. The idea is to have
those blocks pop...let them stand out on
their own-they are too cute not to!:)
It is usually a visually good idea to take what
is center and pull to the outside. As it would
make an affect pleasing to the eye. I
think if you navy is dark as it seems...it's
purpose would still be the same of popping.
It would be just a personal preference.
Lay out your blocks on a black and see-put
some on the navy blue...visually decide and
let us know what you come up with:)Skeat

One more thing to think about...if you
put your blocks on navy to match the
center...your blocks will look like they
open in the back. If placed
    on black, they shouldn't look
like that. Could be a great affect
    either way!:)Can't wait till the
end of the story over there:)
