I got out my JM book and I like your design much better! Excellent lay-out!!! :D :D Did it take you long to turn and twist the blocks to find what you wanted? Or did you design it on paper first? EQ?

Can we see your other log cabins? It's one of my favorite patterns.

I would love to make a log cabin but I'm so afraid!
Oh, gosh--don't be afraid! I've made more log cabins than any other pattern--about six--and they've never given me trouble. You have to opportunity to square them up every time you add a piece. Just nail the 1/4" seam, as with any quilt, and you're good!! Try a few squares and you'll be hooked I bet. :D Also--I've never cut the pieces the right length--just keep everything in strips and trim as you go. Sew, cut, iron, sew cut, iron...

I had to change the layout because I wanted a bigger quilt than shown in the book. I also changed the design of the Greek keys, though I don't remember why. (I'm sure there was a reason though!) I always use EQ6 to figure out the layout. I love that program.

I already posted my most recent log cabin - http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/23612.page - but I will try to get around to posting the other one soon.

I agree with you - no one should be afraid of log cabins! I find it is easier to cut the strips in advance, and then when I sew them on to the block I already know just what length I need to hit, so if my 1/4 inch seams haven't been going just right it will show up when I'm adding the next strip, before the problem gets out of hand. That's why there are so many methods - some work for one, some for another.

Oh my word, that is amazingly beautiful! Did you also quilt it and did you come up with the design lay out? I have never seen a log cabin layed out like yours. Sooooooooooo beautiful !!!!!!!
