I had to share this after seeing the Feb. BOM. My grandmother did this one and though old, it retains its place of pride within the family heirlooms. My grandfather's pet name for my grandmother was 'Dutch' due to a haircut she had earlier on, so that she made this pattern seems apropos. We always called the quilt "The little Dutch girl" and the quilting is superfine to my eyes.

What a special heirloom. If you haven't already, write that story down. The hand quilting is spectacular, but I really love the personality of the "Dutch girls."

You are so blessed to have this quilt! No one before myself and sister quilted. I guess we are the 1st generation quilters in our family. She is more the family historian than I, but don't remeber hearing any stories about my grandmother ever quilting. I know she used a treadle sewing machine, the motor made her nervous! Lucky lucky you, Henry. Like it was suggested--write don the history of the quilt. You will be glad you did.

Thank you for sharing, Steve. The quilt is wonderful as is your story. I know my grandmother quilted, I even borrowed her frame but I don't remember ever seeing her quilt or even any of her quilts. What a treasure.

That is a great piece of family history. I wish I had something like that.

What a wonderful treasure for your family. I have 2 quilts of my grandmothers but they are not in that good of condition. I love it.
