It started as a pillow pattern from "free patterns.com" (no spaces. My computer won't send if I don't add that space.) I use patterns as mere suggestions, so it took on a life of its own after that & I did it my way. The basic outline & cornerstones are from the above pattern. I made my own frame as you will notice & used my machines' fancy stitches on the rails as well as on the solid colored petals of her dress, around her shawl to delineate that & around her hat brim. I added a 3" sashing of little red hearts on a white background & yesterday before sandwiching it, I added two four patch blocks at the apex of each four cornerstones using two white blocks & one block of each colored cornerstone from the opposite end. It just looked like it needed something more to me. I think it really completes it! My DH suggested the edging & it's 60 degree parallelograms. They did not come easily for me, but I finally managed to get them to look ok. I did fine except for the corners. Those were a nightmare for relative newbie like me! I've only been quilting since last June. I hope this helps! If you have any further questions, feel free to ask. I'm happy to help what I can.

I've added a couple of 4-patch blocks in the middle between the ladies to pull it together. I think it looks more finished this way. It needed something & I couldn't put a finger on it. This seemed to work.

Thank you so much for the information on the Sunbonnets - I will go to free patterns.com and look for the "general" pattern. I love to take a pattern and "make it mine". I do agree with you the little 4 patches does tie them together. It just helps to bring in all in perspective. Love it so much.

Thank you! No, it's put together by machine. I've started the actual quilting part now & I'm trying to stretch that comfort zone even further. I got a stencil of leaves on a vine for around the frame portion & I'm thinking maybe a cross-hatch on the sashing. I still haven't made any decision about around the Sue's yet, but I'm mulling it over a lot! LOL!
