Default Super bright and colorful kids quilt (sunglasses warning!)

I started this out as an exercise in needle turn applique with a freezer paper foundation on the back to assist me in turning. I then cut slits in the back of the block to remove the freezer papers.

It is built around the focus kitty fabric in the wonky square blocks. The quilt is Waaay to colorful and garish for my tastes. In fact I dubbed the top "Technicolor Vomit". LOL. The flowers reminded me of cartoon "splats" and all the colors mixed up like that with no rhyme or reason. Once assembled, all I could think is it looks like a cartoon character threw up on it, hence the name. While way to bright for me the recipient is a 6 year old girl who "loves anything bright and colorful" so I think this will fit the bill. I decided to embrace the in your face garishness and did the quilting in a variegated red thread. It will go to its intended recipient with no label so no one but me and all of you will know I called this quilt Technicolor Vomit.

The back is Minky and keeping in the theme, it is a hot pink and white chevron. This was my first time successfully using it as a backing. I think the trick with Minky is to use a dense batting like W&N so the fibers can't migrated back to the top, which was my first experience with Minky. I brought the backing to the front to bind and left an additional half inch of batting so the Minky binding is 1" wide.

    Tech details
Pattern: Flower Power from the book Fresh and Fabulous Quilts. https://www.amazon.com/Fresh-Fabulou.../dp/1564778231
    Batting: Warm and Natural
Quilting is freehand done on my Innova 26" longarm. I did a tight stipple behind the flowers and made two smaller flower templates in that same "splat" shape to do in the wonky square blocks with a loopy vine and leaf to fill in between.
    Quilt size: Approximately 52" x 62"

So put on your sunglasses and here are the pics:

As usual, your technique is superb!

Thank you for the technical details - such as pattern used, batting used, etc.

I have - or at least had - some of that cat print fabric.

It is really a nice quilt and so bright and colorful. It looks like a jigsaw puzzle to me. I also would like to see the quilt underneath your colorful quilt. That looks pretty too. Please share a picture of the quilt that is apparently on your bed and looks so nice.

I am a garish, bright, fun person, and I love the quilt. It would be perfect in my house.
