Very cute table runners. What does the backing look like on the 1st one (with the candy stripe binding)?

I am thinking of doing a runner for my friend...but her table is an old farmhouse which is a little wider than normal--- any ideas how wide I should make it?

Beautiful table runners. Never too early to start Christmas presents. I used to start right after Christmas when I was on vacation and mostly had the next Christmas planned out.
