Oh, my! 3 Scrap Quilt Enthusiast sites!! So far my friends here haven't discovered the one I'm seeing.
Use the graph that OurWorkbench has posted. Put the usual friendship star in where the 9 patch should be. Now on the sashing put 1/2 square triangles on each end and a cornerstone. But this particular one has each of those cornerstones different and then that makes it necessary to have the points created by the 1/2 squares to match the cornerstones. Unlike what MSQ does, all of those new stars are different. Maybe I'll just have to go with the MSQ method and keep my sanity? I can see where it could end up as a nightmare but I sure like the one with them all different.
I can see where a design wall may be a necessity!

Finally found a quilt, that has the Friendship star quilt with friendship star sashing, but even doing an image search could not come up with anything about where it was found on the internet.

Aha!! I think I now have it figured out how she did that. It is not a 1/2 square at the end of the usual sashing piece.
Make the usual friendship star block. Now to make the ones that go into the sashing. Cut the cornerstone and make 1/2 square triangles the same as the cornerstone. There will be a background piece the same size as those 1/2 square triangles to put between them. Is that clear as mud??
I was anticipating using the length of the friendship star and putting the triangle on that piece but this other solves it! Make as many friendship stars as you want but then cut the pieces for additional ones to use where desired as the sashings. Simple but a lot of seams to deal with.
This one I really like. Lots of stars and all different.

DebLuvsQuilting found it! THAT'S THE ONE I like. I was trying to not have to make the individual 1/2 squares but it will make construction less confusing as I described in my last posting. This one is on my bucket list and hopefully very soon! Thanks to all who joined in the pursuit. If you happen onto a real pattern for this one, please post the site for it!

Yay, DebLuvsQuilting!!! You have made a quilter in Illinois very happy.
Illinois -- thank you for the rabbit hole! It looks like a fun quilt. 2.5" squares between the half-square triangles should get this done for you.
