WOW! I had no idea that using diagonal stripes on the outer edge could add such pizazz to a twister! Thanks for sharing this great idea!

They were just horizontal stripes that I matched at the mitered corners. After cutting they appear diagonal. Diagonal might be another great idea. Might just have to try that. :)

How do you deal with all the bias edges? Do you starch before cutting,or before sewing pieces back together?

I just make a point to not stretch on the bias edges. Then the first little border added after all the "twisting" is straight of grain and sets the sides. So far, I've had no problem. I determine the length of the sides of the border by measuring in the middle each time as you would with any border and just make it fit. :)

I have done one small twister and learned what you did about needing high contrast fabrics between the blocks. I also learned that cutting the squares a little bigger helps when using rotary cutter around the template. I sliced too far on a few of them. It does create a bit more waste so maybe using a smaller blade and being more careful will allow me to keep using the 5" blocks.
