Each will be much loved ! I was thinking should try this but can you explain what “tweaking” the pattern needed ?

Well, I added an inch to the pattern lines and then sewed 1/2" seam. Some of the curves were too deep and had to be altered. After the first one, I drew some new lines on the pattern pieces so I wouldn't have to alter the animals again. I may have made the problem worse by enlarging pieces by 1", but otherwise the blanket would have been too small. After your first one you will know what to do.
