I may be able to answer a previous poster's question. I do a fair amount of fusible webbing with machine zig-zag applique. I have not had anything fray yet, unless it was horribly cheap fabric that had no business being in a quilt anyway. (Like the dollar a yard stuff from Walmart that you can see through.)
When I first started out, I didn't know about fusible webbing and I would just cut out a shape from fabric and zig-zag it on, and surprisingly, even those lasted much longer than you would have thought. (I would not reccomend that, but just putting it out there.)
