Our little community quilt group has a 4 hour 'fair' each summer to raise $$$ for scholarships & other community causes. When I discovered the 'twister' tool last fall I wanted to make a quilt to sell. I finally finished this 'twister' quilt after agonizing about quilting it for months. Being a beginner FMQer, I didn't want to ruin it so a fellow group member did the FMQ for me thank goodness. LOL

Now the question is 'what is a reasonable price?' The pink fabrics were donated - I only paid $2.50 for batting & $3.99 for backing. It's hard to determine time spent since I fussed over FMQ & ripped, ripped, ripped for many an hour. I have no clue what baby quilts sell for. Anyone with a fair figure?

Why not do a raffle...most people spend a little $ for chances, rather than a lot for a straight purchase.

Could you do it as a raffle? Sometimes, for community events, I have found they bring in more money like that.

If I were putting a price on it I would say somewhere from $50 to $70. One just never knows what the public will go for. Price it on the higher side so you can come down on it if you need to.

We do a raffle on a group quilt. Each Sept. - May is spent designing, piecing & hand quilting. (it's our 98th year) The big quilt winner is drawn the day of the fair. On fair day we sell crafted items to increase profits so we can give more back to the town. I've attached this year's raffle quilt picture.

A raffle is a good idea. People will always buy a ticket. Great quilt.

I would agree with the $50 to $70. Go to your local fabric store and price the fabric, batting and backing for what you would have to spend for the quilt. Add your time and the quilting. It adds up fast and you will be surprised at the total once you add everything up. I have never sold any of my projects but I made a few quilts for a conference my daughter worked on this past spring. They raffled off the quilts and used the money for their local children's hospital. 2012 they are going to ask for donation of hand made crafts and I expect they will do very well again. I know I have already taken a lot of my scraps and created 3 lap quilts. Baby and Kids theme will be my next venture.
