Very creative!! And don't you just love that method of getting HSTs from squares? I like it, and I am going to do a test sew day to do a chart to show what size squares get what size HSTs. Unless someone else has already done this? If you know, let me know!! :-)

The one caution about this method is that the HST end up having bias edges.

I wasn't concerned so much with it for these projects because all the scrap ends up being on the bias too.

Given the bias skewing...I started with 4 1/4" inch squares. This ended up making 2 1/2" squares that finished at 2".

This is what I came up with for the scrap so far.
I cut the leftover squares down to 4 1/4" square.
I put them right sides together and sewed 1/4" seam around the entire block.
Then, I cut the diagonal both ways, and ended up with 4 HST, per set of 4 1/4" blocks. I played with the HSTs I made, and came up with this block.
I'm working on using the rest of the scrap to put it into a runner. I'm going to have to change what I have, but at least it's an idea. :)
Very nice. What the heck is a twister tool?

I think that is a wonderful idea. Your table runner is pretty.
