Great job on both quilts--i just bought a Spongebob Squarepants book panel and a Little Einstein one to make quilts out of. On the Abe Lincoln one, if you do not like the white, either purchase a permanant beige marker and color it, following the directions for that brand (some you have to heat set, others you do not) or you can also use coffee dabbed on with a Q-Tip
Just make sure to heat set the coffee one if you use it before sandwiching so it won't wash out.

I also tape the backing to the table (or floor - depending on how big it is!) I've had good success so far and I don't even use a walking foot. I read a hint somewhere to put a marble under the backing and push it around as you're pinning. I allows the backing to be pulled up just a little off of the table and makes for easier pinning and not scratching up your table.

I love the idea of using the story book panels. Very creative. I also love the Abe quilt too. Very nice.

Both are great, I can't wait to see them done. God bless.
