Default UFO - Decisions, Decisions... opinions?

This is the first quilt I ever started. These are the first fabrics I bought, first rotary cutter experience, I sewed it on my aunt's machine. I didn't even have my own machine at the time! Now it's time to wrap up this log cabin UFO and finally piece it together... but there are so many options! I laid out the blocks on my bed because I am not lucky enough to have a quilt wall. This quilt is for my Dad who has a red white and blue bedroom.

Sorry the color is off. The lighting wasn't great.

That's the problem with log cabin blocks - too many options for the layout. Personally, I like the diagonal, the star or the barn raising. No help, huh.

I like the star or the barn raising. They are very nice and manly. But so is the diagonal.

I like the top right, bottom left, and bottom middle layouts.

I like the barn raising. That looks great for a first quilt - it looks great for any quilt.

Barn raising (center bottom) is always a favorite of mine so I vote for that setting. Straight furrows (top center) is also very nice for a mans quilt. You also have the added interest of a very subtle zigzag forming in the dark furrow which adds additional visual interest.
