Uncle Sam's Kaleidoscope

I am a huge fan of kaleidoscopes (the optical toy, I mean) and for a long time have been designing my own K quilt in my head and on the backs of envelopes. I'm setting aside some fabrics now. If I can come up with something that comes anywhere near to conveying the hypnotic movement and symetry of a kaleidoscope like you have, I will be very, very proud of myself!
I was talking to a more experienced quilter today about a project and she said that, if the blocks have lots of pieces and therefore end up a bit "wonky", it is worth considering whether you can appliqué them on to a backing rather than adding borders. She reckoned that this method shows off the blocks while hiding the fact that some edges may not be exactly where they should be. It would also avoid having to lose points into a seam (although honestly I cannot see any lost points on yours)
Well done again. Lovely work.
Can I ask how many reds and how many blues you used?
