I bought a used Mercury just like this one in Rochester, NY in 1961 for $35. When I got my masters, In 1964, I traded it in for $35 credit and treated myself to a Singer. Hah! I should have kept the Mercury. I fought with that Singer until I gave up and bought a new Bernina 1230.

I have never heard of a Mercury either...what a beauty you found! I would have been tempted to buy them all including a couple of industrials! I wonder though....why don't they make pretty decorated machines anymore?
