    Can you remove the top and bottom rows and use it for a lap quilt? It looks too pretty to cut up if middle of the quilt is intact.

    Its draining in the bathtub now, even with careful folding and pressing to rinse it ,I can see that a few holes have developed in the center

    This is probably older than you think it is.
    And the dark brown water is likely dye and disintergrated fabric rather than dirt, unfortunately.

    But, like you, I'd have wanted to wash it as well because you just have no clue where it's been, what has been in contact with it. I will pray it will be in good shape enough for you to do whatever you plan with it.
