Wedding Quilt: Only One Year Late!
I planned this as a wedding quilt for DD #1, who was to have gotten married this past May. She had really admired the large-scale floral print so I worked the design around it. Last summer they decided to move the wedding up to August 2012. I told her that since I had just started her quilt it would now become a first anniversary gift. Fast forward to August 2013 and I have just missed their anniversary by a few days. Our family has gone through some tough times in the last few months and she is actually not expecting this until Christmas. So it will be a nice surprise when it arrives next week!
This quilt turned out to be truly reversible. The "top" is "Monet's Wedding Ring" from Judy Martin's book Scraps, with minor changes, mostly in the border. I really wanted to make a DWR, but my daughter is NOT into traditional. I settled for this nod to tradition using contemporary fabrics. Up close and personal you can hardly even see the "rings". However, I didn't wind up using the feature fabric much at all in the top. So I made up the woven bands design for the back in order to show off that print she loved so much and that I had bought eight yards of!
It is also the largest quilt I've made, finishing at 101" square the last time out of the dryer. My new DSM with the 11.25" harp handled it very well. Since I had two competing designs on opposite sides I opted for an edge-to-edge swirling FMQ design that wouldn't interfere with either one. As much as I enjoyed making this for my daughter, I am glad to be done with the monster (the quilt, not my daughter)! One more to check off my 2013 list. YAY!
The top (Those teensy dots in the bkgd fabric do not photograph well.)

Thanks for looking!

It's just absolutely beautiful, lots of love went into that. Love the pillows as well. I had a pillow made to go with a quilt I made for my grandson, it's such a nice compliment. Wish you could give it to her at Christmas so that the whole family could watch her open it and admire it.
