It really depends on how much you like it and how much work you would want to put into it. I could see the eight big blocks with sashings around a center block that is embroidered with a great saying to go along with the pictures like those were the days or diamonds are a girls best friend or She ought to be in pictures. If you don't like the repetition of the pictures you could applique girly things like shoes, hat, gloves, powder puff and lipstick or camera's film reels, a dressing room star etc. Then on the backing a strip down each side of the small frames with black and white fabric pieced to make the strips look like film. If the subject matter doesn't really move you it might be really cool to do one of those one block wonder quilts.

My step daughter would love this! She is into journalism and loves everything vintage.

You might just want to quilt the panel as it is.

I think I would cut four of the bigger panels down the middle of the black. Then put a thin red strip around that. Next I would keep the two smaller panels that are together that way & add them in the middle of the bigger panels plus on the side of each. That would make two wider strips. Then I would add the smaller panels to the top & bottom of each strip. Then add a red &then a Black border around all of it & bind it in red. You could use the left over panels for matching pillows.
