So the next best thing I recreated the block and here is my version that I will call "Candlequilter Star" and dedicate it to anyone and everyone who has ever used candle light to quilt by. I feel this is very appropriate since the picture that danjfalke posted was of a very old quilt and probably quilted by candle. So here is my version of that block. PM me if you have any questions. I will be working on EQ7 to get directions out.

    Thanks,

Sherryl - please let me know when you post the directions! Thanks! This is such an unusual star.

years ago I made a tulip sampler quilt -- the block looks similar to a very old 1800s design -- it had many names -- one of them was tulip crown. Most blocks have several names -- they changed with years and geography as the pioneers crossed the country

This block has 3 stars nestled together with the points of the second star reaching out in between the third star. Very unique and similar to others such as the Triple Star, Kansas Sunflower and Star Flower but different with the 3 stars nestled together. Great pattern and love the colors. I would love to have the pattern or directions too.

It's funny I remember it from about 25 years ago so it must be in some of the quilt books because I didn't have a computer back then. When I did an image search the only place I found it was on Amish sites (and the one above) so maybe it's called an Amish Dahlia. For some reason I thought it was a Pieced Dahlia.
That is what it IS!! go to quilterscache and look up the Dahlia Star.... it is an apliqued flower on the top.... love it!!!
