Squint your eyes and look at the panel along side the bargello. What you see first is the focal point. In doing this, I feel that the bargello overpowers the pheasants. I sense that the bargello colors are a bit bright in comparison to the pheasant panels. I am a painter also, and learned this squinting hint from that.

I think the bargello enhances all of the colors in your beautiful print.

I agree that the combination is too busy but if you love it then I suggest the points go up because it draws the eye upward towards the path of the flying bird.

How about using a wider black border around the pheasant panel and about half the width of the bargello? It is so hard to "see" the different ideas, and I don't want to keep cutting up fabrics to try it.

`I think in strips it would work but defeats the purpose of the bargello pattern.....

Can you take another set of photos - one with just the bargello panels and one with the pheasant panel - from exactly the same distance apart - and if you have a color printer, you could print several copies of them and do "cut and paste" with paper instead of fabric.

And then take scans or photos of the various layouts. Sometimes the camera seems to "see/process" differently than our eyes/brains/minds do.

I actually like the look; it mimics the phesant feathers!

Just my opinion, but I love the color choice as it picks up so many of the same colors in the pheasant piece. I also like the piece with the points going down.

Can't wait to see your completed quilt!

They are both beautiful, but they compete. The eye doesn't know where to look. How would a batik look?

Both are very nice, beatuiful colors. The birds are flying up.... your design would flow with the birds flight if your design went up too. Just a thought.
