Here's a really rough picture of having black 12" blocks to alternate, that are (theoretically) quilted with the Batman logo. Since the picture was taken on an angle, it was a lot harder to add in these squares, so just pretend they're all square, lol.

All three fabrics are the pretty close in value, which is why you can't distinguish any one of them.

If it were my quilt, I'd surround the squares with black and them maybe blue to give it some more interest.
Then put the the other fabrics around them to make a bigger block.

You might have to do some recutting, but those squares would really show well.
So, do you mean like this? I just did the black, but it's easy enough to imagine a blue as well. Value... I suppose I should have remembered that part of my quilting classes :D As opposed to me saying "I'll just pick stuff I like and it will turn out fine" oops

Yeah, but the first one with the black Batman emblems is great - a lot easier. At least now you can tell without scrutinizing it that it is a Batman quilt. It's not just a busy mish-mash. I think it's great - and a ton less work (which is always nice)!

And I'm sure the boy will LOVE it!

Wait - dating? So he's not 7, right?

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions and opinions, especially so quickly! Since I was pretty discouraged 45 minutes ago but feel much more optimistic now :D Thanks!

Ha, no, they're 22 or so. They love superheroes. They and 3 of my other friends went as superheroes for Halloween and created their own costumes. We're a young-at-heart group :D :D

I like the black sashing and border but...what if you made it a little thicker.

Feel like the black Batman logo would still need a black boder around the outside.

I like the black borders, I just think the emblem takes away from the rest of the quilt, your eye is just drawn to that emblem. However, you do it I am certain your quilt is going to be awesome!

So if it's a 12" block, how big do you think on the sashing?
