Default When the panel doesn't match the pattern...

You'd think I would have thought of this, but .. no.....

Panel: Recess by American Jane Patterns - Sandy Klop for Moda. Panel was about 27" long and pattern called for 38.5" - so the fun began. You can see all the strips I added to get it to the correct size.

Pattern: Sidelights (Pattern #302 Mountainpeek Creations) I've looked at this pattern over and over and finally found a panel I wanted to try with it. NEVER thought about there not being a "panel" size! This would be easier if you had a focus fabric and just cut it to fit.

Fabric: most from stash with not enough selvedge to read, but outer border is #21301 - Sandy Klop, American Jane Patterns' "A Breath of Avignon" by Moda Fabrics

THAT IS HILARIOUS! I just looked up that fabric by pattern number and had no idea it was the same line! Got the panel for next to nothing in Houston, TX at the Texas Shop Hop back in September. It was in a basket of sale items on the porch of the shop. Bought the fabric Friday in Richmond, TX. THey had a 25% sale on all fabrics. Too funny!

My husband looked at it and said - where are the other blocks? The asymetric look of it that I loved threw him. HMMMM. I'm making this for my grandson's preschool teacher for the end of year in May. Now I'm a bit concerned my daughter won't be thrilled - I want her to be thrilled! (For the record: she loves everything I do and was thrilled when I offered to make something for this precious teacher. I really want it to be something she thinks is wonderful.)

Finished size: 46.5 X 62.5 (according to the pattern)

I really like the asymmetrical look of this quilt. I think its far more attractive and eye catching. Looks great and perfect for a teaher.

I too like the way this looks. not at all like you were fixing something. It looks on purpose.

That quilt is adorable! I have that "Sidelights" pattern that I plan to make in Asian fabric (someday...). I love yours!

The "dick and jane" old school look is perfect for a teacher. I like it.

Cindy - what's even better is the teacher's DAUGHTER is the school principal! So you can imagine the age of this teacher. I know she'll know right away what she's looking at. (Private Christian school - 3-year-olds to 6th grade. I teach in a public school and you'd never have that relationship on campus -but for them - it works!)

Honestly, it doesn't matter what your dh or dd think of it. The teacher will absolutely love it as someone thought enough of her to make it.

I wasn't the biggest fan of a lap quilt I made for one of my ds's elementary teachers, but she was so touched that she cried. Too sweet. No one had ever made her anything quilty before. You go girl! The teacher will LOVE it!!!!
