    Default Whirlybird baby quilt

I still have a little more to add to this, but my wife was photographing a quilt top she'd just finished, so I took a photo of mine too. The pattern is called Whirlybird. I found it in a Better Homes and Gardens "Quilts and More" magazine from Spring, 2008. The original was for a wall hanging. I enlarged the pattern pieces to 150% for the quilt. The original had a little boy flying the helicopter, I found a monkey applique pattern online and used that. I may put a scarf around his neck, fluttering in the breeze.

I may put a few other small appliques around: sun, moon, hot air balloon, etc. The original had a rope ladder hanging down with the child's name embroidered in the spaces between the rungs. I bought the lettered fabric you see about a year ago on sale, just for this sort of use.

The original instructions called for fusible web plus blanket stitching the edges. On most of the pieces, I used Eleanor Burns method of using interfacing and I zigzagged the edges.
