Question, how did you put it together, after you sliced it in half ?

Thanks for the great ideas!!! I just got my mantle a week before Christmas, now that the Christmas stuff is down I need to decorate for the rest of winter. Love the scarf too.

I matched seams (on the diagonal) and sewed them using 1/4". So then you have something like this:
    HHHH
VVVV Where the H's represent the sewn together sides and the V's are what hangs down.

From here you've got some choices... don't use batting or use batting. I used batting.
And ... Layer and use binding or do what some people call the birthing method. I used binding. 2" double fold so it would be a very narrow binding when done.

There are 6- 90 degree angles that are on the outside. You bind them as usual. For the 3 inside 90 degree angles you just ease the binding along the runner. (Try as you're sewing to make the runner run straight through the machine) Don't give any extra binding in there. And then there are two oblique angles on the sides of the V's. A little trickier. Sew as you would the 90 degree binding, but when you flip the binding up don't use a 90 degree flip, flip it so it runs with the runner. Straight up like it is an extension of the runner and then flip it down again. That will give you the right size for the angle. Obliques are trickier, but even doing the runner you'd have 4 obliques. The mantel scarf only has 2!
