Zephyr, my base is always a white 11.5 x 11.5 square. As I have cut the corners, the centers of the hankies are at times wonderful for the seen base...see pink one. The polka dot fabric was from a cut hankie. The edges are already scalloped. I used a matching color thread to tack/sew securly down all layers.
What a story you have! Mine are all newly purchased. Hope you get to do this. I am hooked!...just wish i could incorperate jewlery in these. Not east.
Good luck!

Your hanky placements are reminiscent of a gift received one Christmas from Aunt Josephine. There were four embroidered hankies beautifully arranged and pinned with tiny pins and wrapped in a flat cellophane envelope to keep them in place. I was about nine and I didn't open the cellophane for several months because they looked so beautiful. Thanks for refreshing a wonderful childhood memory. Your work is beautiful.

When I 'find' the time to get a hanky wall hanging done of old hankies that belonged to my DH's mother, father, and grandmother, I plan on using some of their jewelry and his father's cufflinks as embellishments, then gift it to his only sister.
