Variegated threads are my favorite!! I tend to make quilts with lots of fabrics and a mix of colors in them and a variegated seem to work so well with most of what I do.

Meander in a stipple sort of way? I could just do some wavy stitch diagonally, but I always do that cause it's easy and fast. I need to work on my "quilting" skills, but I don't want to ruin it!!!

Yes, meander in a stipple way is exactly what I meant. I love the variegated threads too. Have fun.

Gayle, thank you for posting your pictures, it is a beauty...those fabrics really are something else :D

Heres a couple of quilting patterns that I downloaded, the rose motif could be continual, after finishing the last external petal, simply create a vine effect away to the next area you want a rose, you could also add the odd leave in between I think, I practiced this one and it's quite good to do :D

You could do something like this: http://www.patternman.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=768 This pattern looks more sophisticated than kindergarden drawings, but it's freeform enough that the quilting doesn't have to be perfect.

Can't help you with the quilting design, but it's very pretty.
