The black border should be the perfect finish. Your son will love it, especially since you made it just for him.

The black border will outline it beautifully. Perhaps even a very narrow red border in between. I love it.

I think a narrow red border then the black would be the thing to do. I love your quilt and the random pattern of the composers. It's great and I'm sure your son will love it!!

I agree with everyone else. Beautiful job and your son will love it. I get insecure also when I'm working on something for someone special like your son is to you. My husband is a musician, so I collect music fabric also. What if you did a 1 or 1 1/2" black border, then a 2" red print, finished with a 4" black? That would give it a focal frame. Be sure and let us know your son's reaction when he receives it, please.

I think you did an awesome job! A dark brown or black border would be perfect IMHO. Its a great combination for a guy. Its hard working scrappy 'cause we get very intimate with the fabric but stand back and look at the pics - it is truly a work of art. Good Job. :thumbup: :thumbup:
