Thanks so much for all your help everyone! I went to the fabric store today and bought enough red, bright gold and black to play with and try all your suggestions. I also got some good feedback there for the back. I will be sure and show you when it's finished and let you know how he likes it. Thanks, thanks, thanks again!!

Three borders would be great of the red, gold and black ...2 narrow on the inside and one wider one on the outside with each of those 3 colors. No matter what you decide to do you Will end up loving this quilt when you are done. It is beautiful.

This is really nice, very masculine and unique. I wonder if a special border (like piano keys or something) would really do justice to such a unique quilt. No plain border. I can say that because I'm not doing the work. :D

I think you've been looking at it too long and expecting something different maybe, over analyzing it?
wonderful quilt for a man, young or mature. He'll be touched that you went to all the effort on the silhouettes of composers, including his. He'll treasure it for certain.
