    The birds are Distlefinks, I did some research when I first saw this pattern and the Distlefinks were popular in the the German and Polish immigrant quilts in the 1800's. They typically were found in the Pennsylvania region. So your eye for the folk art is right on. This pattern was designed by Erin Russek, its Called My Tweets.

    You must be used to using lighter or duller colors like I was and now I really enjoy adding some zing to my work with some bright colors. I like it.
