Yard Sale Find
#21
What a beauty. I would sure want to use it if it were me, but I would also hate to lose the value by replacing the original border. I'd be tempted to do the restoration and use it very carefully. But since there are no quilt police here, do whatever makes you the happiest. And enjoy your great find.

All good advice. To me the value is $2. I appreciate and admire all the work that went into the quilt top.
If I don't finish it or have someone else finish it, then it will sit in a chest, unused, as it has for decades.
Seems a shame to hide this lovely work.

I personally would remove the border now and replace it with period fabric if you can. If not, a muslin would work since there is so much color already. But, if the fabric is giving way now, the rest is sure to follow.
By the way ... What a find!
