I found this fun fabric at Hancock's last year and fell in love with it and knew I wanted to make a tree skirt out of it - so I got two yards of it and bought 2 of each of the metallic star coordinating fabric (wishing now they had a 3rd but hey, I found a goldish starred fabric so it all worked out sweet in the end!)

So at my sew-in yesterday (9am-9pm sew all day with friends!) I made this and I'm just soooo thrilled with it!!

Yay! Under the tree (that my kids stopped decorating so it remains half decorated but it's their artwork for the year so I'm not going to change it. I'm just happy that I have a tree skirt now!

It is not the most complicated pattern. In fact my friend who also made one (hers came out really sophisticated looking - it is just gorgeous - OKay, I love mine don't get me wrong but it's amazing how different fabrics make things look) originally saw the pattern for this skirt and turned her nose up to it. After I showed her the fabric I was going to use for it she was all over it! She's glad she made it now and has decided that she is not going to gift it out like originally planned.

Anyhoooo... yay for my new tree skirt! I started and finished it in one day. I'd say it took about 8 hours to make which I won't complain about at all. It is so worth it!

I have not quilted it - yet. I will but after the holidays are over. Til now it remains binded and under the tree ;)

That's an interesting shape - emphasized by the stripes around the outer edge. Very nice.
Isn't it fun, looking at the same pattern with different fabrics? I just love that about quilting!

The original one really doesn't do it for me at all - the fabric really makes it. It is uber easy to make - simple log cabin/braid design.
