I was all ready to paint today and went upstairs and here was a piece of fabric on my table that may work.. I just sloppy cut a pieces to see color here.. and it is only on the top so far.. just trying to figure out I think it will work.. what do you think>?

Lovely!!! I agree about the waterfall...find some water print fabric, which would solve your problem...but it's gotta have waves and stuff to achieve the look.

For the quilting, you will have to do each section separately to blend in with the texture, or to add texture. On the waterfall, you could add some extra sheer fabric, folded or cut small, to give it texture. Look up Thread Painting and see some examples of how they use thread to enhance landscape quilts.
