I made a quilt for my grandson from his deceased grandfather's shirts, and this photo was taken later. I also made a quilt for my great neice, and here it is alone, and with her smiling on it!

{sigh] Wish I were there to take pictures of the people who got my quilts. Most of them are going to grandchildren who live several states away and we do not see them very often. Here is one that was sent to me.

Strange... I know of a Tom on another message board that looks exactly like your friend Tom! I wonder if it's the same person? It's a book sharing group called bookcrossing.com- is he a reader?
