It is a block that has any thing on it the children can search for it can be a whole square of 1 item or a charm that has a pattern and children look for something in the pattern at least that is the way they sell them on ebay I prefer the charms with 1 item like 1 a dog 1 a cat and so on but it can be any thing I am working on some that are food, ice cream cone pie, cake etc thay can be a lot of fun. I do mine in 4 or 5 inch squares they are really cute in rag quilt but can be done in any style or pattern. It would really depend on the age of the child how hard do you want them to search for the items

Some people do pairs of things .... so the kids can find two cats, two dogs, etc. Not necessarily, identical ... white cat, black cat, etc.
And some do the I Spy quilt as a theme ... eg. all animals, all transportation, etc.
