The May color scheme is way out of my norm......so am making a few practice blocks in other colors, to see if the design chosen is going to work as intended. I can see already the size must be different.

Kristi, the tugboats and sailboats are adorable! Plays with color, I don't believe I've ever seen a more stunning star!

    Default May Challenge

Here is my May quilt top. It needs a white batting which is now ordered. This one is 47" square.

Here is the practice top, narrower border, so it is 45" square.

Love your quilts Gray Fox. Thank you for showing us both of them. It's so interesting to see how color choice gives the same design it's own unique personality.

The border fabric on the first one looks like fireworks to me. It is so fun! Will your challenge quilt be going to Firehouse quilts?

Both of these will be given to Firehouse Quilts once they are finished. The challenge quilt was made of their fabrics, from a huge fabric donation in April. I didn't have fabrics in my stash for the challenge, so it was handy they were available at the meeting.

The border fabric resembles fireworks, but not exactly! Each motif center is b/w/r ovals, and many curving lines erupt from there, each ending with a dot. That makes them look somewhat botanical, but not exactly! I do recall it is a Kaufman fabric, but didn't notice a date on it.

    Smile July Challenge

It's time for a new challenge. July brings us challenge #6 in the book Quilt Challenge "what if" ideas for color and design. Details are on pages 40-47. The color palette is limited, so the challenge is to use a variety of values to keep it from being boring. The required block is a great one to play with.

Have fun! Remember to post a picture of your project for all of us to enjoy and learn from.

Love the previews of your challenge projects Kristi ! It's amazing how colors can have such different energy levels.
The first one with soft cooling colors looks so inviting on a hot summer day.

I finally started working on the July challenge. I'll try to post the blocks I'm using tomorrow.

    Default July Challenge progress

I made a little progress today on my July challenge. Here is a picture of a few blocks on the design wall. The layout is still up in the air. I'm trying to keep it around 40 x 60", the size for hospice. Working with all neutrals has been difficult.
