Kindle - that is one pretty block! that design in one of my favorites too.
I've been spending some time tracing and cutting. I got on a role - got a few ideas about fussy cutting while working on cutting out block 29 - and just kept on going!
I've got all the blocks traced and the paper peices cut ready to fuse to the fabric. I've got about 20 blocks with the paper fused to the piece fabric - ready for trimming and fusing to the back ground fabric. These were all ones that have flower motifs. My print fabric has flowers that have 8 point pedals, and they work perfect for the flowers, cutting the four pedals as one unit. It's quite different but it's more what I'm after with this set of blocks, because I do want to showcase that print. And since I'm only using five fabrics plus the background, it works out well. I'm going to dig through my vintage laces and use some of them, along with the butterflies.
My hand applique black/batik set is more in line with the book - and I am glad there is no fussy cutting with that. I have a lot more fabric choices, and a lot of gradients too (4 shades of red) so that one will be playing with color only.

Kindle: Reminds me of magnolias. Just love it.
I was considering changing the color of the hand embroidery depending on the colors I use in each block. For some reason after seeing Kindle's maybe keeping it a constant through out all the blocks would be a better design option.
Actually started my blocks, doing them in the order they appear. If I give myself to many options I tend to wander. Have the satin stitch one ironed to the backing and ready to go to the machine. Outlined the hand one and cut out all the pieces ready to sew down that first piece. Excited.

I'm also doing a different color of embroidery thread for the hand blocks. I've even used different colors in the same block.
While I love the look of the gold thread on the black in all the pictures I've seen, when I started embroidering on my own blocks, I took it all out and went a different direction.

dd and kindle you have done a beautiful job on your blocks.
I really liked those flowers on block 3 but they sure were fussy to do, lol and I was doing them on the embroidery machine I can well imagine how long they must have taken to hand stitch.
I am so happy to hear that you are using your machine Emma s .
I am having a great time using every colour of thread in my drawer. It's what I love about machine embroidery.
