    A crazy number:

    1. yahoo group mystery quilt on NYE (two versions) here
    2. Merry Mayhem's NYD mystery here
    3. A mystery from Quiltbug.com
    4. quilting.about.com mystery here

I'd love to have some equally crazy company

Kristakz, thanks for the info. I think I may join in on the Quiltbug mystery. I have a number of jelly rolls that I can choose from. Thanks for the info.

Splinter and PeriWink, thanks for the info on how much fabric/inches we have left!

I'm very disappointed in my clue #4 units. My test piece was perfect, so I thought I was sailing along, but when I started trimming the sewn together red/neutral units yesterday, they were wonky. I'm going to have a lot of scant seams to work with, yuk.

Joe's mom, I ended up with the same problem with #4. I'm blaming mine on learning the new machine! I started out OK with sewing on the triangles, but think my seam allowance "grew" as I continued to sew. Since I caught it before sewing the two rectangles together, I'm ok on height, just skimpy on lenght. None are so bad that I can't sue them, and it may be a bit of a problem matching points, but at least fabric is flexible!

Just got to get my eye calibrated so I know what I'm looking at. My clue #5 turned out better, but I stopped and checked in the middle just to make sure I wasn't sliding to the wide side again.

With my old machine, I tended to sew a very scanty seam, and that is not happening so far with the new one

Macybaby, at least you have a new machine to blame it on, lol! I'm not sure where I went wrong; the problem seems to consistently be with that right side triangle on the red piece, so I'm going to re-press those as I go along today (and hope to do better with clue #5).

Looking good, Angelina! Did you finish Clue 4 too? I have to go back and work mine some more.

This quilt is quite labor intensive and it looks like we are not out of the woods yet.

All caught up! Here's a pic of my units so far, with all the colours. I can't wait for Friday's clue - I've been cleaning my sewing room in anticipation I have theories (as I'm sure we all do) about the final layout. And if I'm anywhere close to right, then we are either in for a heck of a day on Friday (LOTS of sewing) or we have another couple of clues to come and we don't get a New Year's Day reveal this year.

my step 4 pieces are coming wonky. I have been using spray starch but the last 4 I did before I put them up to deal with Christmas I must have measured something incorrectly. I am thinking about drawing up a paper piecing pattern for them and I know someone earlier in the thread did that.

krista, I'm getting an error screen when I try to look at your attachment.

For last year's mystery, I'm remembering that all of our sewing was completed by reveal day (that is, no sewing needed except for sewing together what we had already constructed). Have there been past reveals that included sewing new units?
