Plays withcolors, I think your fabrics look fine with the possible exception of the middle red one---see if the large print will work or not once we start cutting.

Kassundra, I will look forward to seeing your quilt since the colors are so different. This is my first mystery quilt so I was not comfortable deviating, but will enjoy seeing yours!

Thanks ladies, I love blue / orange combos and the colors will work in my home. Jeanne this is my first mystery too. I like her colors but didn't have them in my stash and even if I did they wouldn't work in my décor.

correcting myself here.....did not use white for the top thread...Used Aurifil color #4060 which is a variegated pale silver to just off-white on the coolside....realized my mistake when checking thread supply for Allietare! .....this is the thread that just may be perfect for this new mystery .... we shall see, soon ......so ready for this.

Another question about the neutrals - is everyone using beige/cream/off-white? Is anyone using white or variations of white? I'm thinking about low volume but most of my LV is white based. What do you think?

using off-white on white and cool off whites and possibly a green/blue so light it looks white.....that is my plan at this moment but it is going to depend on how they are used ...if there is string piecing of neutrals I am going to need more variety but plan to stay on the cool side not the beige side..and tone on tone rather than prints.....but who knows Friday could change all plans...giggle....this is the fun of mystery.....using stash and definitely not buying additional fabric till clues give us more of an idea. In the past mysteries I have done completely from stash and then finding the perfect piece (or pieces) of backing in the discontinued/discounted shelf at LQS.

sorry this got so wordy ...really ready for the first clue.....so ready I may even do mending today (or not).

I'm using what I have most of, which is ivory and cream, some with small prints, and some tone on tone (I did not have the neutral color cards to compare to). I'm not going as dark as beige. I held up a white print to my stack of fabrics and it looks quite bright, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

    edit

I've never done string piecing, so that would be a new thing for me!

My fabric is now all pressed. Unfortunately, I don't think (with my recovering back) that I'll be able to cut by Friday. I tried straightening edges yesterday, and had to stop halfway through my first color.
