OK I have been AWOL but it wasn't all my fault....it seems like the internet service providers in Chile put the whole country on thei idea of a 'power save' option over Xmas....ie 3 days before the holidays until the new year the connection is iffy and time out is a staple of the day. Weird too as normal working people all only get one day off- the 25th and they are are madly running around shopping b4 that so it is not like the connections are overloaded.........
But I have been a busy girl. Sorry that there is no good place for photos here. Sunshine in the one window only and no larger place to display. But you get the idea.
First is a gift wall hanging for a friend who is a sound engineer on my husband's recordings. So digital waves were the order of the day. The white ribbons floating though the background were actually a staff of music fabric and I was delighted at how it turned out. Photo 2 is the back. The puffiness smooths out when the two flat wooden slats go into the corner pieces for hanging.
Photo 3 & 4 are front and back of smaller experiments from the big piece. I want the jagged lines to remind me of the path of a neuron firing. It is destined for the Alzheimer's quilt project for auction.
Now onto the New Year and the Jan Theme..............

Don't we all?! ))
It's a little early and I am still doing a bit of thinking...but you can make three rice filled hacky sacks and teach yourself to juggle.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T16_BVIFFPQ
Gave this to some friends here and it was cheap gift and both kids and adults loved it. (I decided I needed to do something off the wall this holiday so I am doing it too. It is quite fun and doesn't require running or jogging but is great for my eye-hand coordination.
I will split you the difference and think hard and post on the 28th?
Hugs

How about you guys? I am eager to hear about what things that are the new must haves, techniques and books. And just too keep you busy and occupied I am going to post the next challenge a bit early. January Art Challenge Theme
A New Beginning
We had some good ideas out there for this month including ‘long winter’s nap’ which is quite fun. Altho I am in the middle of 100 degree temps down here in South America I was tempted by a ‘long summer siesta’ for us far away southerners—and yes, I take many of them! with a winter’s nap for you northerners May very well use that for later in the year if you don’t mind……….
But right about now we are all thinking about starting a new year here in the western world. (Not so much in Asia where they nominate another day to begin the new year
I’ll bet you are at least mentally making that list of things to attempt to accomplish in the next twelve months.
It is such a nice round time frame to get things done within.
But when you are thinking of ‘new’, ‘New Year’ and ‘fresh start’ how could you demonstrate that idea in fabric? With something from the past? Or an idea the future? (I’d like clean water, enough food and great educations for us all for instance)
Or perhaps scraps of wedding dress and baby clothes that made the future that you lived and add fresh scraps to represent of hope for a future growing old?
So how would you like to show you hopes for a fresh year and new start?
Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Suzie
As usual if you are involved in, or come up with, your own project we are happy to see it and offer advice on the forum.
Also please share your experiments, technical failures and successes so we all don’t have to reinvent the wheel. And we love your photos!

Great idea! My daughter has moved home & has decided she/we are not eating carbs. So maybe, a chicken, a cow, and a fish surrounded by vegetables? Will give this some thought!
Re mug rugs, yes I am on a quest to collect 600 for the children in Conn. I know they are overwhelmed with toys, etc. If the acting principal says no thank you, they can go to Ronald MacD0onald House. I know they like to have things they can give away to siblings. Happy New Year!

Love your new start idea as well. It will hang in the kitchen as an eternal reminder I imagine?
Love the mug rugs idea and know you will make that goal and more. You are so thoughtful.
I am seriously toying with the idea of starting and curating a traveling show to highlight the plight of abandoned young children of drug addicts down here. There are some small government support grants for them to have a roof over their heads and almost nothing else (Like heat in the winter! And I am not kidding.) I am hoping I can get the US embassy to help sponsor a part and get some big banks etc, to have the exhibit in their facilities. People to make the quilts and donate them for sale is the plan. We will see. My Spanish is still terrible but I have a new friend who's Spanish is great and so it might be do-able.

OK last call on your projects-------anyone got photos of goodies completed? Techniques tried? Please post soon so we can all enjoy.
Otherwise enjoy getting started on your "New Beginnings"

I will be starting off on a new foot this year because I had to move my studio home from the back of my LQS. The LQS closed it's doors on December 21st. I had used excess space at the store for the past three years for my studio. I have spent the last month rearranging everything in my apartment so the stuff from the studio would fit in. Now lets just hope that I can find things as I need to to make my quilts. A new adventure for the new year. jb
