Queenbarbiej, that is the perfect setting fabric for this quilt. Looks great.
Sandra-P, you're welcome. Mine were way off. No idea why. SuzSLO is right, they are fudge blocks, so I got them the specified size and left them untrimmed just in case I need the fabric.

QueenbarbieJ, I love the floral you chose for the setting triangles. I think it is perfect for your project -- and your aqua too. Great all around.
I have my square white/garnet connections made, am waiting for the long rectangles to arrive. I could have pieced them out of the squares still left from my extra white/garnet connections but I just didn't want to.
All in all, mistakes included, I'm pretty happy about how this has gone. I have the back and binding already made. I have space in my solids box again. Other than solid white, I didn't buy anything for this project and stash got some reduction and reorganizing

Like Teresa, I've really been enjoying this lurking journey along with you all. Thanks for the fun and inspiration!
Terry - I've also had the same sort of epiphany regarding customizing/changing quilt patterns. I haven't made a lot of quilts, and especially not quilts that require fancy patterns, but I know I would often just dismiss a quilt as a possibility because of difficulty or a layout I didn't particularly like. When I realized I could adapt something to make it doable or something I would like more, the possibilities became endless. :-) That's why I think my favourite part of watching this thread is seeing all of the variety in people's fabric choices, layouts when showing off blocks, and "tweaks" to sizes and numbers. Now I'm just waiting to see some of the final products and I'm glad that so many people have said it will take some time - I love the anticipation and knowing I could get lovely surprises for months in this thread!

I am still going to have to play with my blocks, but it works out pretty well that I have an almost perfect amount of pink/purple blocks to keep the purple in the center with a pink border. Or, I could randomize them.
I am still intending to sash this, but with my layout space what it is, I have to place the blocks without them. Then I'll take like four blocks on a corner and choose the sashing that way.
Edit: I know I need to fiddle with the butterflies, I was mostly looking at ratio of pink to purple

Oof! Needed a coffee break, and so much to think about.
Here's two more shots, one is "randomized" actually is diagonal pink and purple rows, but scatters things about nicely. The other is roughly divided along the diagonal with a pink corner and a purple corner.
When I'm doing layout, I put it in on the bed and leave and shut the door. When I come back in, I see if anything jumps out at me. If you watched Big Bank Theory, I'm sort of like Sheldon trying to surprise himself with his equation...
I'm liking the randomized more than I thought I would.

For those who are doing the sashings can you share with me how you are doing them. Are you placing them on the side of the blocks then adding a long strip to the bottom of them? Just not getting the hang of it.
