I am starching the dickens out of my fabrics for this clue because I have had trouble in the past making that chevron block consistant. And hoping my mini folded corner ruler would come in the mail, due any day. But after I finish the starching today, I will jump in and start sewing. I will also be making my HSTs separate from the chevron - I don't mind a little waste - LOL.

here are my peices. I just cut the chevrons to start with. I can't stand cutting off corners.

I've used very narrow seam allowances when doing minature quilts, but for this I'd rather just cut them seperatly and not draw lines or worry about getting the seam in the right spot.

and sewn, I have not done any trimming yet.

I was real happy to see these small HST - two years ago I miss cut a bunch of neutral HST for the BH mystery, and they were the exact size I needed for these, so they are finally used up!

Thanks Tweety2911 - Your units look great!
Thanks happylab - love using up my already cut rectangle scraps.

Macybaby - did you cut those with an Accuquilt? I did the same thing but with a regular ruler. Happy for you that you are able to use up your homeless HST.

Question for those using scraps -- for my Chevrons I have about 18 different green fabrics, so a lot of scrappy goodness, but for my neutrals (orange is my neutral) I only have about 5 different fabrics left. The are a really good orange and I have plenty but should I go for more variety (buy more?)
Or is it a big deal if there is a lot of same-ness in my neutrals?

In fairness I should say I have about 650 yards of fabric and am really trying diligently to only use my stash but.....

My opinion -- do not buy more fabric. I do not think it is a big deal if your neutrals repeat, and it goes along with your larger goal. Also, it may be that the chevrons will mix with the first two units, which will provide instant variety.

Macy and AmyB, how do you cut the parallelograms? Do you need a template?

Thanks Joe's Mom - I am kind of undecided but would *like* to not buy more.

Am I allowed to explain "non-Bonnie" methods? I did not use a template - just a regular ruler. I will send you a private message with pictures. Stay Tuned.

AmyB, I'm with joe'smom, I don't think you need to go out and buy any more fabric. As far as "sameness" with your neutrals ........... it's no big deal. Remember there are people that do Bonnie's mysteries using yardage and their quilts look great.

Now as far as explaining "non-Bonnie" methods, there should be no problems. Bonnie always states ....... make your units any way you want or our comfortable doing as long as they come out the size needed.

I don't own a die cutting machine, so do all the cutting with rulers. I cut one the regular method and then measured arross the 45 angle side to side. Then I just cut my strips using the ruler against the slant cut (lining up so I made sure to hold the 45 degree.

One of my very first quilt project was leMoyne stars (the old fashioned way). So I learned a lot about cutting and working with diamond shaped peices.

Wondering if the chevron unit pointing in the opposite way would make a difference. The first one I made faced the other direction but have since changing to face the way hers are shown. Do you think it really will make a difference in the direction of the chevron? Just wondering....

I made 13 facing the wrong direction... I'm going to remake them.
