Just found this challenge and it looks like fun. I too need another project like a another hole in my head but what the heck. I think even with the change to clues every two weeks I can use this for a leader/ender for other projects. I am thinking of Navy background and teal and red for the other two colors. Will check my stash tonight.

    Thanks for doing this!

Hi, reporting in ...just completed two unit from Step 2. The first one I did some un-sewing, I was making the whole unit at one time. Light bulb time, the second one, I maked two 9- patch units and then joined to make the 18-1/2" x 9-1/2" unit. My half square triangles lined up sooooo much better..no un-sewing.

I just wanted to share this if someone else could benefit from the information.

Quilt addict, Sure, it's easy to sew between other projects!
    For others just starting:
Post #1 = cutting and fabric requirements
Post #28 = Step 1, center (primary fabric color)
Post #105 = Step 2, star points (primary color and background color)

I've got step 2 about a third done. I'm having trouble with my 2 1/2 inch squares. There's enough difference in size, just tiny fractions of an inch, forcing me to size them after every single seam I stitch. Good grief! These are the ones I've rec'd from my various candy swaps. Obviously, everybody's 2 1/2 inches aren't the same. It's taking a lot of time but I'm happy with the way the blocks are turning out, especially with the blues as there are hardly any duplicates. Even with the added work of sizing, it's a very enjoyable project. Thanks Jane for coming up with another good one!

Jane, So sorry to hear of your dear friend's death. It's been awhile since I checked in and just saw the post.

Thanks for the Step 2 - and putting this together.

Thanks all for your kind words. It's a harsh reminder of our mortality, right? I could go on & on about it but won't except for this: value and appreciate your friends, keep in touch, maintain the friendship, strive to make more friends because we can never have too many friends and make the effort to be social (don't isolate).

I've finished one of the units for STEP 2 aka Flying Geese on steroids - LOL

Judy - I thought the same thing when making my first unit and will try your approach with my next one.

    How's everyone else doing?

    Any more color decisions?

Well, I did more unsewing last night than sewing. I laid my blocks out just the way I wanted them for Step 2 and sewed them all together wrong twice!!! By midnight, I decided it was time to give up and go to bed. I worked on the blocks a little before having to leave for work and should be able to complete them tonight so I can start cutting squares for Step 3. My color choices are Yellow center, Blues as my secondary and combinations of white/yellow and white/blue background.

Jane, I am so sorry about your loss. Life (and death) surely does throw us curves. Over time, we learn to lean into it and keep our balance. And, gather knowledge (as your reflections commented) to mold ourselves for the future. (Anticipating curves, "gathering rosebuds", as it were.)

I have been following this thread with interest. I'm making mine 4-1/2" cuts, my quilt will be 96x96. I'm also modifying it (when do I not do that, am constantly told "you over-think", "you make it harder than it is") to suit my needs. My needs are: I don't have enough (organized) scraps in three color families to make this quilt per directions. My primary color will be scrappy (purple), but my background and secondary color will be solid cloth.

So kick me out, or disallow my contribution if you wish (this is very very very tongue-in-cheek), but this challenge is being my inspiration for my project. I have a vision...

Welcome! More than a few people are 'modifying' their Giant Scrappy Swoon (GSS) so you fit right in. We have
    2 1/2", 3 1/2" now 4 1/2" so this will be great fun.

I work in healthcare (cardiac nurse) so deal with life & death on a regular basis which I think gives me quite a different perspective on things. I can tell you from my experience that many people simply cannot accept that death is part of life. I've learned to embrace that fact early on in my career.

I can also tell you that, for the little bit of 'control' we have in the matter - BTW, we're not in control - I know what I want and what I don't want when it comes to making choices and I strongly encourage everyone to have an Advanced Directive/Living Will well before you need to make those kinds of decisions. OK. I'll step off my soapbox now. . . .
