Drat and blast ... I had decided I was going to do method #2 using the Easy Angle ruler but upon reading the instructions again now that I am home I see that you need the 6.5" ruler (minimum). I only have the 4.5" size.
So I either need to wait until tomorrow then find the 6.5" ruler (last week this size was all the shop had in stock), OR do method #3.
I'm not good at waiting ... and I kind of like the idea of having the "bonus triangles". I'm also used to piecing my flying geese like this, but will need to remember to each square in the same direction (as opposed to meeting the middle).

I wish I had waited before I started cutting out my rectangles. Belfrybat thank you for posting this link I will save it for future BH Mysteries for I am sure they will be in one of them again
whitepine I love your fabric choices, sorry they are the wrong angle, I too hate when that happens!! They sure are pretty though!!

Blocl 1 for clue 2
Bonnie's first option worked just fine for this block. I used BEST PRESS on my fabric to stiffen it up a bit, and followed her instructions and made my sample block in no time at all! I just plain didn't "over think" it and trust Bonnie completely - if she said it works, why not give it a whirl. I also took a pic of a sign in my kitchen that fit the bill tonight.

Thanks everyone who encouraged me not to take my blocks apart to change my "matching triangles" from clue 1. I'll wait til later, when we see how these will end up going together with other pieces. If I feel I need to, I can change them then. Hope I won't feel like I need to, tho!
Joe's mom, it is hard to choose neutrals when you don't know the full picture.... I keep going back and forth on whether I want to use whites with black lines, or all kinds of neutrals like creams, grays, whites-- prints and tone on tones...etc. Just have to jump in and try something, I guess.
I printed the templates for clue 2. Hope I can figure out how to cut them with my Easy Angle ruler.
I have a craft show tomorrow. I spent 5 hours today setting up my booth. This is the last one I booked for this Christmas season, so after tomorrow I will be free to play with clue 2! Yay.

Here's something else that was posted on how to do step 2. This looks great to me. I just can't figure out how to know exactly where to put the black triangle. I am waiting for a reply from the person who posted.
I printed a previous one that someone put on here with doing strips. It was 26 pages! Used up all my ink! Now I don't even plan on doing them that way. Live and learn!

I am doing step 2 using a base rectangle cut 2.5 x 4.5 and precut triangles. I lay the triangle on the rectangle and sew using the edge as a guide. Then I can check my block accuracy, trim the extra background piece out or not (one quilt book I has does not) No bias edges, templates, or lines to draw.

I don't understand where she is sewing.
edit
I know where the stitches go, but I don't get what she means, use the edge as a guide. It's really late. Maybe it will make sense in the morning.

I love what everyone is doing so far. I wanted to join this too, but we just sold our house & I am packing to move. I will be keeping an eye on everyone's progress often. Keep up the good work.

Pam H, it looks like she did the black exactly like she did the pink, only on the other end. Smart idea.
I'm going to try to get some done this morning. I've decided to stay with the extra HST method. I did that on another of her quilts so I've already got a bunch of baby HSTs. Maybe some day I'll actually do something with them...
