This thread showed up in my 'new items' feed, so here's two patriotic quilts I've made:

First was made for my brother when he graduated high school (in '99) and went in to the USMC. This quilt has been on base in SC, DC, CA, Okinawa, and twice in Iraq. It is now safely retired in NH with my brother & his also retired USMC wife.

Second was a special order for a 'Cubana-Americana' quilt for a good friend's mom.

    I designed both quilts myself.

Cattailsquilts - wonderful quilts! The top one in particular is a great design.

Yes QuiltE, I've been to Rome, but I had to leave the sewing at home this time. The butterflies are to fill slight gaps and distribute the colour a little better. Here is a brimstone.

You are incredible! ... I did see the Rome pics on your blog, but didn't bput 2+2 together to compute!!

The butterflies will be such a nice touch ... how many will flutter by?

    Is your masterpiece coming together?

dublb - finally, a hopt pad. That's close enough to a pot holder in my world. Yes, it qualifies as patriotic with the eagle in the centre. I like the understated patriotic touch.

cattailsquilts - thank you for sharing past projects. Since this thread is for projects started after, or in progress as of April 2012, I certainly hope you will join us and start another item. You do lovely work and it would be nice to see what you come up with as your next patriotic project.

    Muv - Lovely butterflies.

Ah, my bad. I thought it was for showing what we've done! I've got none in the works right now, no plans for one at the moment either. I have too many other PIGS and WIPs and UFOs to contemplate!!

We'll be here when you are ready.

I have another one that should be started by the beginning of the year, I hope.

    Third and last butterfly.

I'm hoping to be able to work like stink next week and get a lot done towards completing the top. The border is going to an easy project - just stripes.

Muv ... I still can't get over how even your stitches are for your applique edges. Beautiful!
    Here's to next week!
