    Enjoy the heat wave

I went for a ride today, the weather was great. No rain - finally!
Here's a picture I took at Twente Airport. It's a kestrel diving to it's prey

It's batik scraps from the last 15-18 years. A lot of it cut up into the perfect size for this quilt. I see that I'm running low on background fabrics. I just kept throwing the leftover scraps in my big box.

Yesterday's block. Need to finish the applique this morning. I'm going to wait on the corners. I can't see the flower centers from far away. I think I will use my inktense pencils to highlight or darken it. sent a picture of my progress to my sister and she said that "it's a busy quilt". So, I'm going to see as more blocks are added what I can do to make it a bit less busy. I don't know how though.
Sewing all day. Everything is closed due to thick ice outside. Schools, even the rec center where I do water aerobics.

Love that block!! Jen's quilts are busy, all of them. The originals that is. It totally depends on the fabrics and colors used. And still........they're busy

Cool picture, Anael!! I don't think the prey faired well.

sewingitalltogether...that block is one of my favorites in my own quilt. Well done! Kingwell patterns are crazy busy patterns, which is what makes her designs so unique. As Anael said, color and fabric placement is key to avoid too busy results. I read that Kingwell does not repeat a single fabric in her scrap quilts, which makes hers busier than most.m That is too much work for me. Lol..

Finished the hand applique on the basket block. All the shapes are padded. The berries have a layer of batting, so they are good and puffy. Still need to soak it to get out my markings, the glue and the padding puffs out after wetting it.

Ok, I cut out clam shells today. Really had to sift through my pile of scraps to find pieces big enough. So....what's the inside secret on sewing these clam shells??

Berry basket is so pretty!!! I turned edge and applique'd my clamshells...except for the side pieces and bottom pieces, only the tops of them have to be turned edge. And,like all my applique, I machine sewed.

Anael, that is a great photo of the hawk. We get really huge hawks in our neighborhood. And, when my son's dog was just a few weeks old, a hawk tried to swoop out of the sky and grab him. It left a very definite impression on him. He was afraid to go into the back yard for a long time. (I don't blame him either.) My son realized what was happening just in time to save him. Let's just say, the hawk was not pleased. (Snowy is only and 11 lb. dog as a senior dog.)

Sewingitalltogether, that is a beautiful block. I love that color blue. Pretty colors on your clamshells also. It is going to be one pretty block section.
