I'm very proud of myself. All the projects I brought to work on at my quilt retreat were from my stash. I avoided stops at quilt shops along the way to and from. I started working on a pattern that has panels of braids framed in a contrast fabric and then bordered with another fabric. The border fabric I had picked out won't work with the braids - too busy - but I will shop my stash tomorrow for something else and NOT buy a new fabric!

I love hearing how everyone is using up their stash!

I was digging thru the remnants at Joann's for flannels I need to make diapers, and did not resist the temptation to pick up 5 cotton remnants for my pre-cuts. I was tempted to get several more, but only purchased the colors I am low on, so it's a borderline slip. :/

I'm working on a couple of new projects...Now really you say. When I asked my oldest GS if he wanted a t-shirt quilt when he graduates from HS next year...he replied "no"...well how about a denim one? Another "no, I just want a quilt, Gma." That set me thinking. I had a supply of plaid flannels and homespuns in all sorts of small chunks. I began cutting in the widest widths down to the smallest possible. These pieces I sewed end to end in long strips. I had enough strips to sew a 68 x 80 flimsy with plenty to spare. I then improv sewed a little crib quilt from the leftovers. Now to find backings for them to finish them off! I have less than a fat eighth of assorted strips to discard...then all the homespuns are used up! I may have to buy fabric for backing...I saw some gold flannel at the shop that would work well. I need 4 1/2 yards for backing and binding for the big quilt and may have a scrap piece for the small one.

Last year I declared it the year of the triangle and organized all the random triangles I have accumulated. I'm sewing 6" Maverick stars and am using scrap print squares for the center of the star...Oh yes another project going!

What wonderful ideas y'all have! And, such good plans for using up stash!! Even the little hops off the wagon have been tiny!!

I've been busy hand sewing the binding on the 8 baby quilts I made on an assembly line fashion over the last VQW... all from stash. I have only 3 left to go. Such a boring job, I had to check out a couple of Playaway novels from the library to keep me on task. :)

I am so proud of everyone, even myself. While I was re-organizing the mess after QF (Quilty Friend) and I came back from the sew-in I decided on another project or two from pre-cuts in my stash. I have a jelly roll and a layer cake of Polka Dots and Paisley that has been languishing way too long in the stash, so I am going to just make plain squares and wrap a jelly roll strip around the square, nothing fancy, but quick and easy. I'll cut charms from the layer cake. After this current quilt is finished I will need something brainless before the next one comes along. I already have the backing for the PD&P, so no shopping needed for it.

Progress! So today I am set up to cut. Before I took the BSR off the sewing machine I had to make a small little fix in the border of a baby quilt. Got that done. Foot and thread colors are now changed.

I put together the 2.5" strips I had in my stash to end up with 9-patches for the flying square blocks. Some of the pieces were short, others were WoF. I decided that I didn't want more than 4 of the same combinations, so cutting the strips down into 10.5"-ish pieces that I will sew together and then subcut into units. Got those trimmed down and put together and ready to start sewing. I should finish those today and press them, and then have them ready for my small group day Tuesday if I want to do something other than hand-sew the bindings of baby quilts.

Finished up the one extra postcard block that I had to make after I declared the blocks part of the project closed -- sometimes you just find a perfect fabric. I figured out the size of the sashing strips, the blocks are rectangular so not quite as straight-forward as usual. Once I lay out the blocks and cut the sashing that top will go together quickly.

I've posted it before in another thread, but here's some examples of my postcards:

JJBlaine; there was constraint in your choice. So climb back on and keep going, one day at a time.

Looks good when we all shop stash first.

Good job, using stash, everyone! I didn’t sew much this weekend. Instead I cut & organized scraps & fabric yardage. I’ve finished the top Surprise pinwheels but don’t have an immediate project ready to start, so I thought spending time refreshing my memory of exactly what’s in my stash would be a good idea.

Some may know this about me but I typically make a second quilt to donate using the remnants and scraps from the first quilt...that is what I am currently working on. The second quilt is a Dresden Plate and I am just winging it so it is evolving as I go based on the fabric that remains....except, I ran out of background fabric so I need to go to LQS tomorrow and buy another 1/2 yard. At this point, another stash fabric will look wonky since it is 90% completed using one background fabric. Just a bit miscalculation but what I buy will be used right away.

grann....I have a weakness for polka dots....love creating with them. Looking forward to seeing the finish. Sounds really cool..

Ice....cool postcards...

I intend to make dementia fidget quilts 24 x 24” using a bag of lace, trims and beads that probably came from Mom or Grandma’s house. I’ve completed 3 now and if I run out of ideas I can quit anytime.
